fall home

Typically, when the weather turns nicer in spring, we hear a great deal about spring cleaning. It’s a term that goes hand in hand with the saying “out with the old, in with the new.” But where does that leave fall? At ARS, we think getting your home prepped and ready for the cooler weather through “fall cleaning” is just as important!

With that in mind, here are seven tips for ensuring that your indoor space is cozy, clean, and ready to help your family embrace those cooler temperatures.

  1. Deep clean bathrooms

Although not everyone’s favorite task, a deep cleaning of the bathroom is a great idea. Once you tackle the floors and the sinks, take inventory of your shower or tub’s situation. If you have mildew or mold that has built up, reseal those affected areas with fresh caulking. And if you notice something troubling in your shower drain, we have emergency plumbers ready seven days a week.

  1. Check your windows

When the temperatures start to dip, you’ll feel it inside. One way to ensure better warmth is with solid weather stripping. If you notice gaps or holes around your living room or bedroom windows, it’s time to apply new weather stripping. Appropriate weather stripping will keep the chill out and hold the warmth in.

  1. Invest in a home maintenance plan

The best way to avoid emergency heating service this season is to invest in a comprehensive home maintenance plan. It is especially important to schedule that heater tune-up as we head into November. When you sign up for a maintenance plan, you’ll secure a better home, help prevent breakdowns, stay cozy, and save money over time, too.

  1. Clean out the fridge

You may not know it, but there could be unwanted science experiments growing inside your refrigerator. Uncovering forgotten foods inside the fridge has happened to the best of us. As you wipe down shelving, be sure to inspect food that might be spoiled, and toss any expired items, too.

  1. Vacuum everywhere

For many homeowners, vacuuming is a weekly chore. But don’t get lazy! It’s important to vacuum everything—including vents and behind furniture. If you have pets that shed, regular vacuuming is even more critical for keeping your home clean. Want an even cleaner home? Invest in a room air purifier to help eliminate germs, pollutants, and other contaminants.

  1. Disinfect the kitchen

Once you’ve deep cleaned your refrigerator, start attacking the microwave. Remove and wash the rotating plate and wipe down the inside with a chemical-free cleanser. From there, tackle the stove and range — be sure to clean that range hood, too. Grease and dirt can build up on the hood and sometimes even be a fire hazard.

  1. Install fresh batteries in appliances

Now is the time to change the batteries in smoke detectors and CO2 monitors in your home—and then test them. What? No CO2 detector in your home? Yikes! Call ARS for professional installation if you need it.

Fall Cleaning Bonus Tip!

Kids off to college? Bedrooms still stacked with unworn summer clothing? Then now is the perfect time to go through closets and pack up any clothing that you haven’t worn in over a year. Consider donating any lightly worn clothing to special causes like local shelters, the American Red Cross or, the Purple Heart Foundation.

As always, ARS is available seven days a week for all your heating, cooling, and plumbing needs. Schedule your appointment online right here.
